Donor in Need of Donations

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. And for 22-year-old Corey Evans, who was born with kidney disease, his hero came in the form of his Uncle Dave who’s becoming Corey’s kidney donor.

"We went through all the blood work, and all the process and we were a match and I said, ‘Let’s do this!’" says David Osborn.

The gratitude Corey’s family feels is overwhelming. After a year of testing it’s been confirmed that David, who is no blood relation to Corey, is a matching donor. The surgery is set for June 15th at the Ohio State University Medical Center.

"I love it. I couldn’t see not doing it. I’ve known him since he was 6-years-old. I can’t imagine not doing it," says Osborn.

Surgery is new to David, but not to Corey who’s had four surgeries related to his kidney dialysis. Dialysis which he needs three times a week for three and a half hours at a time. The new kidney will give give him a break from his medical ailments.

"Dialysis and getting sick and can’t do a lot of stuff I’d like to do," says Corey Evans, kidney recipient.

Both men will require weeks of recovery time. David says taking the required 8 to 10 weeks off his job at Owens Illinois is the only thing about the process that makes him nervous.

"All I’m going to get is sick leave, which my work is really helping me out with that and helping me with the time off, but the sick leave with me and my wife both being off- she’ll be off for at least two weeks- that just won’t cover everything," says Osborn.

In order to help the Osborn Family with living expenses following the surgery a fund has been set up at the Zane Trace Federal Credit Union on Ridge Avenue. Anyone can make a donation "In Care of David T. Osborn."

Despite the possible hardships ahead David says he just happy to be able to help Corey.

"I wish him the best and I hope he takes good care of my kidney and lives a good life," he says.
