Downtown Art Mural

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The art scene is alive and well in the city of Zanesville as a new mural showcases the development of Muskingum County transportation.
The mural is located at the intersection of 3rd and Main on the west side of the D-C Chiropractic office building.
“For years, I’ve had murals on the west side of my building,” Building Owner Dr. David Schroder said. “And I decided this year that I’d have local artists display some of their artwork and we also wanted to weatherproof the paintings so that it wouldn’t peel and dry out like the other murals have done.”
The mural consists of five separate images created by five local artists, which depict five different means of transportation travel.
“Dr. Schroder had reached out and said that he wanted some local artists to do some artwork on the side of the building,” Local Artist Kristen Brown said. “So we worked together figuring out how to do that; the sizes and the colors and the artists. And then I got really fortunate because there’s so many wonderful local artists here in Zanesville. So we get to showcase them too.”
The murals begin with the 1830s canal era painted by Kristen Brown; followed by the 1860s riverboat era painted by Kelsey Price; the turn-of-the-century rail road era painted by Sheena Bonice; the automobile era painted by Olivia Himmelspach and the aviation and aerospace era painted by Brigitta Smith.
