Downtown Memorial in Need of Donations

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II, and to honor Muskingum County’s heroes, the Veteran’s Council has made it their goal to finish the memorial and are asking local grocery stores for help.

On July 2nd and 3rd, veterans will be at participating grocery stores asking for donations to help complete the memorial. The Veteran’s Council is asking for as many grocery stores to participate as possible.

"We’d like everyone to know that we’re really coming along in a good effort with this project but we’re still shorty about 25, $26,000, and it’s our feeling that if every little business would give $50 or even $100 we could really complete this project," says Secretary of Treasury of Muskingum County Veteran’s Council, Jeffory Dittmar.

To be complete, the memorial must add the remaining helmets that represent Muskingum County soldiers who were killed in combat.

"I’m proud of Muskingum County and i think we have to do this," says Co-Chair of the memorial, Betty Acker.

Any grocery stores interested in taking part are asked to call Hank Littick or Jay Benson at the WHIZ Media Group at 432-4531.
