Drive safe over the holiday weekend
Zanesville, Ohio It’s the first summer holiday of the season and law enforcement will be out in full force.
Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said make sure you take extra care driving as there will be a lot of people on the road this weekend through Independence Day.
“There’s people going a lot of different directions, a lot of different ways, a lot of different speeds and try to be on the look out for the other person,” said Lutz. “If you’re taking care of yourself, leave a little early, slow down, pay attention. Also, have a plan ready that if you get there and you don’t think you should be driving than make sure you have a plan for you to get home.”
Lutz said it goes beyond drinking and driving. Accidents can happen anytime with or without alcohol.
“A lot of folks think that it can’t happen to them, especially the drinking and driving and distracted driving,” said Lutz. “Distracted driving comes in all forms. You are hearing a lot of things about the texting and driving with the kids and the adults.”
Lutz also wants to remind everyone that it’s illegal to set off personal fireworks in the state of Ohio.
