Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over this Labor Day
With the holiday weekend upon us, the Ohio Department of Transportation is reminding motorists to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”
Local law enforcement from the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Zanesville Police Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol will be out in full force all weekend to keeps roads safe, and crack-down on impaired driving.
“The big thing for us on this weekend is just trying to make sure our citizens are as safe as possible, so being out there, being visible, we do run some radar, we run some laser making sure people are trying to stay down on speed,” said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.
During the 2014 Labor Day weekend, the were 12 fatalities on Ohio’s highways and seven were alcohol-related. Lutz said officers will be extra pro-active this weekend in an effort to deter accidents on the roadway.
“We want people to be safe, our first-responders especially, and the families out there don’t want to respond to a scene and find one of their loved ones hurt or even deceased at that point, so we just want everybody to try to be safe, be responsible, we know there’s going to be a lot of parties, there’s alcohol parties, so try to have somebody there that’s responsible when you drive home,” Lutz said.
If you plan on consuming alcohol this weekend, it is encouraged to designate a driver, or make other travel arrangements.
