Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign underway

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville-Muskingum Health Department and local agencies gathered at the fair today, to discuss the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign.
Among those were the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Zanesville Police Department and Triple A. Zanesville Police Captain, Scott Comstock said the nationwide campaign runs from August 14th till September 2nd, and is to spread awareness, and put a stop to impaired driving.
“The primary focus nationwide is a reduction on impaired driving. Roughly around 10,000 deaths occur a year nationwide, due to OVI accidents and the goal here is to reduce those numbers,” said Comstock.
Captain Comstock said this is a bad time of year for OVI’s, because of the amount of outdoor events that take place in late summer. Zanesville Triple A Sales Manager, Ashley Duhamel said according to Triple A research, 95 percent of people view drinking and driving as an extremely dangerous activity. Though, 11 percent of that 95 percent say they drove drunk in the past 30 days.
“I think that when people drink, they just kind of have this invincibility about them. They think it is not going to happen to them. They are not going to get pulled over. They are not going to affect their own lives or other people’s lives. I just think that they ignore the consequences that it could potentially have and they go ahead and do it anyways,” said Duhamel.
All of the departments simply want to see people being responsible for themselves and others.
