Driver Flees After Taking Out Pole
An accident Friday evening sent authorities on the search for the vehicles’ driver.
It happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. in the 100-block of Mead Street.
According to Sgt. Chris Phipps with the Zanesville Police Department, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading north on Mead at a high rate of speed when it hit a power pole. The crash brought the pole and power lines down on the Jeep. It also caused a transformer on a neighboring street to catch fire.
The ZPD and the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office used a K-9 to track the suspect, but were unable to locate him.
He’s described as a male wearing t-shirt and baggy shorts.
Sgt. Phipps says he’ll likely face charges of failure-to-control and leaving the scene of an accident.
Officials estimate it will take AEP four hours to repair the damage.
