Drug Take Back Day in Muskingum County

ZANESVILLE, OH – Drive up and drop off your old medications this weekend during the DEA Drug Take Back Day.

This Saturday, April 27th, from 10 AM to 2 PM, the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office along with local health agencies invites you to dispose of your unused or expired medications safely. This event promotes a healthier community by preventing drug misuse and ensuring responsible disposal of prescription drugs.

“We’ve seen homes that’s been broken into to steal these types of prescription drugs. We’ve seen people go to the bathroom at their relative’s house, go to the medicine cabinet, and take these types of drugs. There are different things that can happen with these drugs. They have value on the street if they’re sold illegally. Some of these drugs can be used to change behaviors and different things,” Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz said.

The event will be from 10 AM to 2 PM at two locations: the Muskingum County Health Department on the corner of 6th and Shinnick Street in Zanesville, and Riesbeck’s on June Parkway in South Zanesville.

“We take all the turned in prescription drugs and then we will meet with the DEA on Monday, and we deliver it over to them and they destroy all the drugs,” Sheriff Lutz said.

For those unable to attend, remember there is a permanent medication drop-off box available all year round at the Muskingum County jail.

The Zanesville Police Department will also have two drive thru drop off locations on Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM: Sam’s Club on Northpointe Drive and Kroger on Maple Avenue.
