Dry Conditions Continue to Spark Fire Concerns Across South Zanesville
ZANESVILLE, OH – While November is typically known for bringing the snow, this November is responsible for the ongoing drought here in Zanesville and surrounding areas.
The extremely dry conditions have sparked concerns about the numerous grass fires across the area. While a statewide open burn ban is in place until the end of November. South Zanesville Fire Chief Russell Taylor would like to encourage all Zanesville residents to refrain from burning until further notice.
“The reason I’m here is to ask our community throughout the state to not burn outside, we’re having a lot of brush fires and it’s still way too dry for people to burn outside.”
Despite it being November here in Ohio, the Zanesville area is missing the usual precipitation this season, the drought and dry season will continue to affect Zanesville and surrounding areas
“Only burn natural products. No paper because paper, when it burns it floats in the air and once it gets into the woods, we have another fire, so just burn all natural products. Keep it in a container. If you gotta burn outside, do a ring, three feet by three feet, nothing bigger and at this time please don’t burn until we get some wet weather,” explained Taylor.
Due to the increase in brush fires, the South Zanesville Fire Department has been very busy this dry season. Please continue to take the necessary precautions and try to avoid open burning until further notice.
