Early Voting Begins
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – 2024 is a presidential election year and Tuesday, October 8th, kicks off this year’s election season.
Muskingum County Board of Elections Specialist Cheryl West explained how voting season offers more convenience for all citizens to cast their vote.
“The election is an actual election if you wanted to vote in person at your polling location, is November 5th,” West said. “However, we have early voting hours in our office and that starts Tuesday, October the 8th, at 8 a.m. You can go to our website to find out the extended hours because as we get closer to the election, we will have longer hours and some weekend hours as well. So, it kind of helps people with their work schedule.”
West encourages voters to learn who and what will be on their ballots ahead of time so they can make well informed decisions before marking their ballots.
“So I would go to the BOE website. I think the easiest way is just to go on Google and put in Muskingum County Board of Elections and then our website pops up. So if you do come in to… starting to do early voting in the office in person, you need to bring a valid ID with you. Unexpired and it needs to be a photo ID. There again you can go to our website to find out what are acceptable forms but the standards are driver’s license and a passport and certain military IDs are acceptable,” West said.
Beginning 8 a.m. Tuesday, October 8th, voters can either vote early in-person at the Board of Elections Office or apply for an absentee (mail-in) ballot. The Muskingum County Board of Elections office is located at 627 Market Street in Zanesville.
