Eastside Community Ministry Distributes Backpacks at “Tools for Schools” Event

ZANESVILLE, OH – Eastside Community Ministry brightened the start of the school year for many students as they held their annual “Tools for Schools” event at Zanesville High School.

On August 1st, the ministry distributed approximately 900 backpacks each stuffed with school supplies to pre-registered students of all grade levels, ensuring they are all well-prepared for the upcoming school year.

“This is my first year helping with “Tools for Schools” and it’s been very rewarding. It is amazing to see the time and effort that has gone into this. I think a lot of the volunteers that come, they realize how much work has been done and how the process has been tweaked over the years. It’s great to be a part of such a big community event,” Eastside Community Ministry Board Member, Holly Moore said.

“Tools for Schools” was made possible by the generous donations of money, school supplies and backpacks from the community. It’s a great example of the community coming together to support its young learners once again this year.

“We have a lot of community partners that donate money. Churches, businesses, and individuals send in donations, and we purchase backpacks. Some people do collections where they collect the supplies that we need. We did “Stuff the Bus” at Walmart this year with Delta Kappa Gamma, so some of the supplies came from that and monetary donations as well. It’s really a community event or a community effort when it comes to collecting supplies as well as putting everything together. We definitely want to thank our “Tools for Schools” committee for all of their hard work and all of the volunteers from all over the community that came and made this happen,” Executive Director Jamie Trout said.
