Electronic and appliance collection days coming to Muskingum County

Electronics on June 16 and appliances on July 14

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District is hosting two collection days to help clear up the clutter.

The solid waste management district is hosting an electronics collection day on June 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Things like TVs, computers, monitors, and printers can be dropped off free of charge.

“These are items that you can’t put out with your regular trash. They don’t take TVs.The other small stuff, I mean I’m sure that it gets slipped in the trash but it shouldn’t. These are items that we do take and they are recycled and used for like the hard drives in the laptops have precious metals in them that are recycled,” said Mike Reiter, district coordinator for the Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District.

There will also be collection days in the Guernsey, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, and Washington Counties throughout June. The next collection day in Muskingum County is on July 14 for appliances like washers, water heaters, air conditioners, and refrigerators.

“The biggest thing with that one is the Freon brand appliances because people don’t want to pay to get rid of them and they end up over the hill somewhere. So we do take those for free,” Reiter said. “A lot of people do bring scrap metal, loose scrap metal because they simply, the answer is they don’t like to drive to the scrap yards anymore. So they bring it to us. It all ends up in a scrap yard. The Freon-branded appliances go to a contractor of ours, William Thomas Group in Cincinnati, Ohio to be, have the Freon evacuated and recycled.”

Both collection days are for businesses and residents of Guernsey, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, and Washington Counties. This is the only time of year these collections take place, so don’t miss out. You can learn more by visiting the Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District.
