EMA Monitoring Water Levels

Ema Possible Flooding

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – With more rain in the forecast, possible flooding remains a concern across the area.

The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency has been keeping an eye on the Muskingum River water levels. EMA Director Jeff Jadwin said, right now Dillon Lake, Seneca Lake, and Wills Creek Dam are all below flood stage. He believes standing water on the roads is a major concern at the moment. It’s important to remember to “turn around, don’t drown” when you see high waters while driving. But it is also paramount that if you live near flood-prone areas to always stay updated.

“Right now, just be very cautious as to what the river is doing and the streams are doing around your property. If it starts to rise, you know, get away from it and stay safe,” said Jadwin.

Homeowners near the river should always be wary of the river water level, and have a plan in case of flooding. It’s recommended to have a to-go bag with items prepared and a back up place to go.

“Have stuff prepared. Have clothes, medicine, cash, drinking water. Just be prepared if you have to leave your home in a hurry,” Jadwin mentioned.

EMA sends out alerts to phones and emails in case of emergencies such as flash flooding. Residents can sign up for the citizen alert system by going to the EMA website, www.ema.muskingumcounty.org.
