Embark on a Jungle Adventure with the MCLS

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Library System is inviting the community out for a day of treasure hunting adventures.

To go along with their Summer Reading theme this year, the John McIntire Library will host the “Adventures of the Lost Treasure Show”, on Tuesday, June 11th from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.

Katie Merritt, the Youth Services Librarian, says the Science Heroes who put this whole show together incorporate interactive STEM activities into the show to help the kids learn.

“They’re going to come and they’re going to do this really cool science show, where they are going to take an adventure into the jungle,” Merritt said. “The kids are going to be able to participate and they’re just going to do a whole bunch of different STEM activities, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. They’re going to be able to do hands on, while interacting with the show.”

Merritt said some of the things you can expect to see at the show are chemical reactions, air pressure demonstrations, and much more.

This program is open to all ages and helps to count towards the Library’s goal for summer reading.

“Each year we have, we try to have goals, cause it’s fun to work towards something,” Merritt said. “Last year, we tried to reach a certain amount of minutes, this year we’re doing it a little bit different. We’re trying to do a 1,000 people that are constantly logging and interacting with summer reading. So we want to reach 1,000 people and being interactive, as long as you’re logging your minutes or doing the activities or checking your Beanstack, that’s your interaction.”

If you miss the “Adventures of the Lost Treasure” don’t fear, there will be two other shows Tuesday at different library branches. The second show will be at the Dresden Branch at 2 PM and the final show will be at the Duncan Falls/Philo Branch at 5:30PM. If you are interested in signing up for this program or register for summer reading you can go to the library’s website.
