Emile Weaver Found Guilty of Aggravated Murder

Jurors found the mother accused of killing her newborn daughter at Muskingum University guilty on all charges after four days of trial.
Emily Weaver of Clarington was found guilty of all charges today. Weaver was the only witness called to the stand by the defense. During her testimony Weaver gave information regarding her pregnancy and birthing process. Muskingum County Prosecutor Michael Haddox also brought up evidence regarding some text messages sent to Logan Roberts of Cincinnati, the man Weaver thought to be the father of her child, stating ‘no more baby’ followed by a few more text messages with one saying that the baby died due to placenta complications. Further investigation showed that Roberts was not the father, the father was Logan Lucas of Cincinnati. Weaver also admitted to being in denial during her pregnancy but having a good idea that she was pregnant. Prosecutor Haddox spoke with the jury following the decision of Weaver being found guilty.
"Talking with the jury afterwards they felt that there was a lot of evidence that showed her guilt beyond reasonable doubt that she purposely caused the death of the baby," said Haddox. "They were very comfortable with their decision."
Haddox hopes this case sheds light on other options for young mothers, as this is not a first time a dead newborn has been found at Muskingum University. For women that cannot take care of or don’t want their babies they can take them to any hospital, law enforcement agency, and children services agency with no questions asked.
"Hopefully this case can then maybe get out to the public the safe haven law," said Haddox. "Which apparently a lot of people still didn’t know about."
Judge Mark Fleegle will announce Weaver’s sentencing at a later date. Weaver can face up to a maximum penalty of life without the possibility of parole.
