Explosion Near Morgan/Athens Co Line

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says it’s investigating a reports of a major gas line explosion and large fire that happened in northern Athens County near Trimble but was felt in Morgan County. Initial reports indicate the  location is near Hooper Ridge Road and Robinson Ridge Road.   Dispatchers say they are not sure exactly what happened but have received numerous calls about the incident. The Athens Messenger Newspaper is reporting on its website that a large Tennessee Gas line ruptured near Concord Church in Ames Township. The newspaper reports some residents say flames are shooting 300 feet in the air. Emergency Crews are responding to the area to investigate. So far there are no reports of injuries.  Some Morgan County residents are reporting that their homes shook when the explosion occured.
