Extensive Model Railroad Needs New Home
A project 20 years in the making in Downtown Zanesville will soon have to find a new home.
The Former Business Equipment Building on 4th and Market has been home to the Zane Trace National Trail Model Railroad Club for as long as President Brian Harrier can remember.
"The building sold a couple weeks ago and has a new owner," explained Harrier. "He eventually wants to renovate up here and so we have to find a new home, which we’re currently looking, so we’ll have to tear down and start over."
The fictional model railway stretching from Zanesville to Charleston West Virginia has only recently been completed in the last couple years.
"When we found out we were going to have to tear down we were sad about it," emphasized Harrier, "But we’re starting to get a little more excited about it now, we can start over and build something completely new and make it better than hopefully this last [model.]"
Sunday’s open house asked for donations, which the club hopes to put towards a new location. However affordability will be a concern, Harrier said they’ve maintained their current location since the late 70’s, paying only $50 a month in rent.
