Faces of Adoption November 2010: Katie
This week I had the chance to catch up with a 14-year-old teen that’s looking for a family to call her own. Here’s my report with Katie.
There was no stopping Katie at the Wild’s as she began her special safari tour. With the conservation area closed for tours she had the place to herself.
"I like cats, I’m allergic to them, but I like big cats like tigers. I also like wolves," said Katie. "Wolves were originally my favorite animal. Pretty much any animal. I love them all."
This teen who describes herself as spunky, open minded and laid back has dreams of one day studying to work with animals as a scientists, biologist or conservationist. So, a trip in the back of a truck and a stop to see the bison was just the thing for this teen.
"I’m not a couch potato at all," explained Katie. "I don’t like being inside. It’s okay to enjoy family time inside. It’s a lot more fun being outside. You can find a lot more experiences in nature."
But, by far the best part of the trip for Katie, who loves reading Stephen King, was the trip to the rhino’s winter habitat, where she got to pet and feed the grazing beasts.
"It’s amazing," said Katie as she smiled. "They’re like big dogs. They love the attention just like any other animal."
The only thing that would make Katie happier than being around animals is finding a family.
"I’m just waiting on that family," said a solemn Katie. "If they’re watching this, I’m just waiting on that family. I’m just waiting on you and you are very important to me and I need you."
