Fair Produces 70 Tons of Trash

The fair may be over, but there’s still a lot of trash that needs to be taken care of.

The fairgrounds produced about 70 tons of trash this year…that equates to 10 tons a day.

"Between pick up loads, dump trucks, street sweepers…We have a maintenance crew that had crews out all the time, helping pick up trash. If we call and say there’s a bin overflowing, they jump on it and get it for us. It’s just a never ending battle," says Stacey Stewart of the Fair Board.

Trash trucks make four or five stops each day to cart the trash away. It helps the fairgrounds maintain a clean appearance and keep from smelling.

"If you don’t keep it under control, people don’t want to come back because they don’t want to go someplace where it’s dirty, " says Stewart.

Besides getting a few complaints, Stewart says the maintenance crews have done a great job, keeping the grounds clean for visitors.
