Fair Stop Could Save Your Life

It’s one of the most popular stops at the Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair and it may end up saving your life.

The Rambo Memorial Health Center booth in the Veteran’s building offers a variety of free health services. They offer glucose testing, TB skin tests, blood pressure screenings, pulmonary function and pulse oximeter tests, which check the amount of oxygen in your blood.

All of the free services keep the Rambo staff very busy.

“We’re a very popular table. They all love to get the free services. We have handouts, pencils, bags, fans of course in the heat of the fair,” says Crystal Bebout, executive director Rambo Memorial Health.

At a previous fair the pulmonary function test helped to detect one man’s illness.

“He was a smoker and he agreed to do that. I did the test on him and he came back with some negative results, so I asked him to see his doctor about those results. The next year that we came to the fair, which was last year, he said that we saved his life. He had lung cancer,” she says.

Rambo is also using the fair and their Facebook page to get the word out to voters about their levy on the November ballot. They say the .4 mill renewal levy will enable them to continue to offer free services to residents of Muskingum County.
