Farm City Day is back for Year 21

Farm City Day celebrated its 21rst year bringing country culture to the city Sept. 19.

The event took place at the Muskingum County Fair Grounds and people of all ages got the chance to learn about one of Ohio’s commodity crops… the soy bean. Activities like story time, cooking demonstrations, and ‘guess how many soy beans are in the jar’ all filled the Farm City day.

“It’s not as easy for people to get out and know what’s happening in the rural areas and agriculture so we bring as many displays to the fair ground here where we have a big crowd and can let them all experience it here,” said Organization Director of the Ohio Farm Bureau Kari Burkey.

Burkey said they bring remnants of the farm to the fair grounds to teach those living in the city about where their local food is grown and how it all works.

“It’s not something they’re used to or they’re a couple generations removed from the farm so if we can have this opportunity to teach them where their food and fiber comes from and let them meet some of the farmers who are raising their products then that helps our industry and takes some of the mystery out of the technology and the new techniques that farmers are using, “said Burkey.

The event comes together each year with help from many community organizations like the Ohio Farm Bureau and more.
