Farm To School Day for Local Elementary School

One local elementary school got a taste of life down on the farm Monday.

Students at Adamsville Elementary School participated in "Farm to School" day and had the chance to see farm animals and tractors outside of the school.

Christina Bell from the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department said the program is a way for students to learn where their food comes from.

"The students are able to have local farmers come in, talk about what they do on the farm, what kinds of foods do they raise, that the kids see here in their cafeterias, and then show them some pictures and demonstrations, and having other locals bringing in their animals," said Bell.

The program was funded with a grant from the American Dairy Association.

Head cook, Dianne Hatfield said the experience also introduces children to new foods.

"We encourage our children to try every product that we serve, and we have a wonderful group of children at Adamsville. Communication and trust is what’s important, and we have both here," said Hatfield.

Students from Dresden Elementary have also participated in the program.
