Fatal Accident on I-77 near Caldwell

Authorities say a semi truck hauling milk crashed on Interstate 77 near Caldwell Monday morning claiming the life of the driver.

The State Highway Patrol reports that 62-year-old Gary Ford of Beverly was driving southbound just before 7:00 a.m when his semi went off the right side of the roadway, struck the guard rail and overturned.

Ford was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say milk spilled into a nearby creek as a result of the accident.

The Environmental Protection Agency was called in to help contain the spill.

The accident remains under investigation.
