“You don’t need to have any kind of training, because we put you through school,” Duke said. “You’re under a training period once you start here and we pay for your corrections academy once you start. So basically all you need to be is 21 years of age and have a [General Educational Development] or a diploma.”
The female corrections officer position is full-time position with starting hourly pay around 15 dollars and various benefits.
“I think it’s a good start to get in if you’re interested in a career in law enforcement, the jail is a good place to start,” Duke said. “Once you’re hired here you have the option to transfer over to the police department. So there’s many options to go from here, but this is a good starting place for anybody that’s interested.”
To apply in person go to the Civil Service Employment Office at the Municipal Building located on Market Street. Applications can also be found on the city of Zanesville website at coz.org under the ‘Employment Opportunity’ tab.
