Fern E Briggs (April 8, 1923 – August 8, 2010)
Fern Elizabeth (Swingle) Briggs, 87, of Philo, passed away at 1:50 pm, Sunday August 8th, 2010 at the Arlington Nursing home in Newark.
Fern was born April 8th 1923, on the family farm on Virginia Ridge Road, Philo, the daughter of the late Starling and Margaret Swingle. She was a 4-H leader and a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Heath, a 50 year member of the Olive Branch Chapter of the OES, Senior Center Club #1 of Zanesville and Paradise Valley Senior Center in Phoenix and the Mayfield Post #804 of the American Legion.
Surviving are her two daughters Faye (James) Landis of Heath and Karen (David) Burris of Phoenix, AZ; her sisters Ruth Edwards of Indianapolis, IN; three granddaughters, Christina Kennedy, Darcie (Timothy) Ransom and Shala (J.K.) Young; five great grandchildren, Clayton and Dalton Lannan, Kaitlyn and Abigail Kennedy and Kaydance Young; sister-in-law Gloria Swingle and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her Husband Jim Briggs who passed away April 8, 1987 and her two brothers Harold and Russell Swingle.
Olive Branch of the OES will hold star services at 8 pm Wednesday evening.
Visitations will be 5 to 9 pm Wednesday, August 11th 2010 at the Thompson-Farus Funeral Home, Duncan Falls where funeral services will be 10 am Thursday, August 12th with Pastor Kris Santiago officiating. Burial will follow in Duncan Falls Cemetery.
