Final Mayoral Candidates Forum Before Election

Thursday night was the last chance for members of the Zanesville community to hear the mayoral candidates answer their questions.

Independent Randy Case, Republican Rob Sharrer and Democrat Jeff Tilton attended a forum at Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church on Pine Street.  Reverend Clifton Kilpatrick said the idea stemmed from a tradition in his Mississippi hometown.

"As a little boy, I remember the local churches would have everyone running for office come there and speak to the community, especially a community that’s in need," said Kilpatrick.  "They wanted to know what was on the agenda, what was their plan to help the community better itself."

After the opening statements, people in the audience had an opportunity to submit written questions for the candidates.  Kilpatrick said it’s important for the community to interact with those running for office and help them make Zanesville a better place to live.

"I’m hoping that all of the people who are coming are really into this, concerned and looking forward to getting some good answers," said Kilpatrick.  "We’ll know how we can also be accountable and move forward to assist those who are going to be elected."

Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday.  Friday is the last day to vote on an absentee ballot in person at the Board of Elections.
