Fire Will Be Ruled Arson

Zanesville Fire Chief Dave Lacy says an overnight fire will be ruled arson.

It happened around 1 a.m. this morning at 924 Daniels Court.

Lacy says the home was vacant at the time.

“There was a young lady supposed to move into that house today. They had just put all new carpet in yesterday in preparation for her coming over and preparing to move in, ” says Lacy.

The Red Cross says David Bowers Jr., Tabitha Tigner and 11-month old Kyana Bowers were awaiting an electrical changeover.

The fire started at the rear of the house in the alley.

“We know there was a mattress at that location that somebody apparently took the opportunity to ignite. It then set the siding of the house on fire, got into the overhang, then spread through the entire attic of the home. It’s considered a total loss,” says Lacy.

Homes on both sides of the fire also suffered damage. Lacy is estimating the costs to be close to five thousand dollars a piece.

The Zanesville Police and Fire Departments are still investigating the fire. Lacy says they have some leads but no suspect yet.

The Red Cross is helping the family with funds for clothes and food.
