Firefighter Celebrates 50 Years Of Service

The Adamsville Fire Department honored a local firefighter today.

Dave Shinn is celebrating 50 years of service to the Adamsville Fire Separtment. Shinn started working as a firefighter when he was just 18 years old and he says they have come a long way since then.

"This department was started from scratch, was having soup supers and card parties and stuff like that would raise the money. Then later years, we went on a tax levy, we got one, we operated on a one mill levy ever since we went on the levy and that’s when we got the first squad."

Adamsville Fire Department currently has 10 officers and volunteers. They are also recruiting new volunteers and accepting applications for their junior firefighter program. Shinn explains how important it is for the younger generation to get involved.

"We need this younger generation to keep coming in and keep it going, because many and many of the old timers that I’ve served with is gone and you gotta keep the younger generation to come in and help out."

Shinn was chief for two years, was an officer for many more, and is currently one of the safety officers.
