Fletcher Signs With Battlers
Philo point guard Layke Fletcher made it official Thursday morning. He will continue his basketball career at Division II Alderson Broaddus University in Phillipi, West Virginia.
Fletcher also received interest from nearby Muskingum University. He plans to major in sport management at ABU, citing the school’s academic reputation as a key component to his decision.
“(Alderson Broaddus) is on top of basketball a lot but they’re also on top of academics,” Fletcher said. “I like (the campus). It’s kind of small, not too big for me. It’s comfortable.”
Coached by Greg Zimmerman, the Battlers have dominated the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, winning the league title each of the past two seasons. Just 10 days ago, Zimmerman received a verbal commitment from another area player, Zanesville’s Malik Bocook.
“I’ve been friends with Malik since we were little. We used to play on the same AAU team when we were in 6th and 7th grade,” Fletcher said. “(Seeing) him grow as a player and now getting to play with him, I think that’s pretty sweet.”
Fletcher was a force on the court for the Electrics as a senior, leading the team in points per game, three-point percentage, free throw percentage and assists per game.
