FOG Ordinance Passes
Local businesses will see changes in regulations governing the release of fats, oils and grease into the city’s sewer system.
After several times being tabled, the FOG ordinance was passed upon it’s third reading tonight at Zanesville City Council. At the last city council meeting, it was recommended some adjustments be made to the wording of the ordinance. Public Service Director Mike Sims says he’s glad it passed.
“Of course we want to minimize the impact to our own facilities,” said Sims. “Sometimes these grease blockages from larger restaurants are really difficult for us to clean up and it causes a lot of man power, downtime, road closures and just a general inconvenience for everyone.”
Sims says the ordinance will affect new businesses as well as old. He says it will go into effect 30 days after the mayor signs the ordinance, which is expected to be tomorrow.
