Former Ohio Secretary of State Visits Zanesville
Former Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner spoke to area Democrats at the Knights Columbus Hall Sunday on the issue of voting rights.
Brunner is known for her efforts in defending Ohioan’s voting rights and continued her goal by speaking on behalf of House Bill 194.
"Part of House Bill 194 does is to make it more difficult for people to petition their government things like Senate Bills 5 petitions," explained Brunner. "Instead of trying to close off access to petitioning their government for readdress they should be opening it up and examining themselves and saying what is it we are doing wrong, why are they coming to us and saying they aren’t happy with what we have done. "
The Bill would re-evaluate state voting laws by revising the use of Provisional and Absentee ballots due to changing technology. In efforts to encourage voter involvement and to share their ideas, Brunner formed an Ohio State Political Action Committee last July called Courage PAC which connects citizens with legislators by e-mail and telephone, emphasizing that even small measures make a big difference.
"When you take the collected actions, even if small of a large group of people you can change the history of a country," said Brunner. "You can look at the countries in the Middle-East and see just what’s happened."
The Muskingum area Women’s Democratic Club sponsored the event. You can follow Courage PAC at couragepac.com. The web site is updated frequently with articles, e-mails and ways to become involved.
