ZANESVILLE, Ohio –  The Zanesville Fraternal Order of Eagles presented a check to benefit Lupus research.

The local organization presented Grand Worthy President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Jerry Sullivan with a check worth $1,000 to go to his choice of a fundraiser.

“It’s great to have money donated here from Zanesville for Lupus research,” Sullivan said. “A $1,000 check is really a good amount of money and my wife and I have traveled the country trying to raise money for this. This is a great honor and these people worked very hard to do this, but that’s what the Fraternal Order of Eagles do.”

Thanks to the Zanesville Fraternal Order of Eagles the money will go towards Lupus Research Alliance an organization Sullivan and his wife started supporting after their twin daughters were diagnosed with Lupus. The Sullivan’s are now in their second stage of Lupus.

“The first stages of it is when it gets into your skin when the sun gets on you, you breakout, blister, and those types of things,” Sullivan said. “So you have to stay out of the sun. The second stage is where they’re in now and that affects your muscles and your joints like arthritis rheumatism, all the aches and pains with it.

Sullivan said the third stage is when the disease affects the internal organs and that’s when the disease turns fatal. The cash will go straight into the medical research that will help prevent, treat, and cure future diagnoses in patients.
