Free Air Conditioner Program
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Many people find summer heat and humidity unpleasant to deal with but for respiratory patients, it can be downright dangerous.
Rambo Memorial Health Center Executive Director Shannon Bell announced they have begun their annual, free air conditioner give away and shared how respiratory patients can benefit from their giveaway.
“So once again it’s time for our free air conditioner program to start,” Bell said. “We do this program every May and we give away approximately 100 to 150 air conditioners every year. So in order to get a free air conditioner, you do have to qualify. You have to be a resident of Muskingum County, you do have to have a respiratory diagnosis.”
To be eligible for Rambo’s free air conditioner program, you need to provide an order from your primary doctor, which most local doctors are already familiar with, prove that you are income eligible and have not received an air conditioner during the past three years.
“The program has been in existence for over ten years and the need came about because people with COPD, people with asthma, it’s hard to manage those two things when it’s hot, when it’s sticky. And then you’ve got the potential for dampness to come into your house, so then you’re growing mold. So that need really came about,” Bell said.
The air conditioners are 5,000 BTU, window units, which are designed to cool a room that measures 10 by 15 feet. For more information, you can call Rambo Memorial Health Center at (740) 452-5401.
