Fresh Produce Market Plans to Provide Food to Hundreds of Local Families

Community leaders plan to provide nearly 300 families with free food, this weekend.

The West Muskingum Local School District, in partnership with Mid-Ohio Food Bank will host a fresh produce market at the West Muskingum Middle School on Saturday, June 4th. The Mid-Ohio Food Bank will provide produce for the district to distribute to local families in need.

“We’ll receive roughly 12,000 pounds of food, we’ll sort that our for distribution and start to get that passed out to people in need. It’s an honor based system, they come in, fill out the registration form and then get their food,” said Conrad Wilkins, Site Manager, West Muskingum Schools Produce Market. “They’ve identified Muskingum County of an area of need to help people out and we’re just proud to take part in helping people get some food.”

To be eligible for a single person household you need would need to make $23,539 annually or less and for each additional person in the household you would add $8,320.

“I think it is important to that we reach out and help as many families as we can,” said William Harbron, Superintendent, West Muskingum School District. “I think this was just a natural outgrowth to extend a helping hand to others.”

Parking will open at 9:30 a.m and registration starts at 10 a.m. Distribution will be from 11 a.m until 1:30 or until supplies run out.
