Gary W. Kearns (June 12, 1944 – July 23, 2011)

Gary W. Kearns, 67, of Zanesville, died at 9:03 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born June 12, 1944, in Licking County, Ohio, a son of the late Carl and Bernadette Moreland Kearns. He graduated from Utica High School and The Ohio State Barber’s School. Gary had owned and operated the Plaza Hair Smith. He enjoyed racing motorcycles in California.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Nancy J. Lyons Kearns, whom he married April 30, 1974,of the home; a son, Lynn (JoAnna) Kearns of Leander, Texas; two step-sons, Tim (Kim) Prouty of Zanesville and Alan (Julia) Prouty of Adamsville; twelve step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Shulz of Columbus; mother-in-law, Betty Lyons of Zanesville; two nephews, Russell Shulz of Copperas Cove, Texas and Rodney (Taira) Shulz of Loudenville, Ohio; brother-in-law, Stan Lyons of Port Charolette, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Gerald) Prouty of Adamsville and Debbie Lyons of Zanesville.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Kearns; step-son, Lester Prouty II; father-in-law, Gilbert O. Lyons; and two brothers-in-law, Gilbert Dale Lyons and Richard B. Lyons.

No calling hours will be held. Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville is entrusted with all arrangements.
