Gas, Oil, Career Expo to Provide Insight into Industry

The natural gas and energy industry in southeast Ohio is inching closer to becoming a reality, so when it happens, do you have the proper training?

The Muskingum County Opportunity Center will be holding a utilities, gas and oil career expo Tuesday at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center. The event is geared toward those in high school and college but is open to anyone.

"What we’re hoping to do is for people to start thinking now about what they want to do 2, 3, 4 years down the road so they can get the appropriate training to match up with the job needs," said Opportunity Center Supervisor Bob Mercer.

Many residents have been confused thinking the expo is a job fair, which it’s not.

"It’s an informational event. It’s to tell people the types of training and jobs that could be available in the future. Again it’s not a hiring event, it’s about career exploration and the future in energy related fields," said Mercer.

The expo runs from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Welcome Center.
