Genesis Healthcare System Parts Ways with Anthem and Humana Medicare Advantage Plans

ZANESVILLE, OH – Genesis HealthCare System is cutting ties with Anthem and Humana Medicare advantage plans.

The move to no longer accept Anthem and Humana Medicare Advantage plans came after Genesis formed a contractual partnership with Aetna, Medical Mutual of Ohio, Medi Gold and United Health Group. Anthem and Humana have opted not to participate in this partnership.

“It was very important for us to identify which companies we can work with that will enable us to take care of patients in a very high-quality fashion, with a good experience for those patients, and also meet the basic economic needs of our health system so we can keep our doors open and serve everybody,” CEO and President of Genesis Healthcare System. Matt Perry said.

As of January 1st, Anthem and Humana will no longer be in-network with Genesis Network System. It is important to clarify that this change only affects Medicare Advantage plans. Genesis will continue to accept Anthem and Humana commercial insurance plans for working families, Medicaid, and seniors with traditional Medicare.

For seniors who are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan with either Anthem or Humana, Genesis recommends selecting one of the four in-network plans for 2024.

“The best option is to talk with Medicare Certified Insurance. They can help them look at what their specific needs are and help them to choose a plan that fits their needs. It’s a free service too,” Perry said.
