Getting Healthy at the Mall

Get ready to get healthy. The annual Community Health Fair is returning to Colony Square Mall this weekend.

Starting Friday morning with informative sessions and interactive demonstrations, the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department offers something for everyone all day at the fair.

Public Information Officer, Jennifer Hiestand, said there are many news things this year that align with the goal of the health fair.

“This year, we wanted to be educational but more interactive,” Hiestand said. “This is a public health event, we want to provide this information to the public. It’s kind of like a one stop shop for them to be able to get preventive information and also some basic health screenings.”

If needed, you can make a follow up appointment right after your screening. As part of being healthy and safe, the safe communities project will also have a booth set up.

Various law enforcement agencies and a speaker will explain how distracted and impaired drivers affect everyone on the road.

“We’ll have a booth there, and at the booth parents and students can come up together,” Safe Communities Project Director, Kristina Bell said. “They can use the distracted driving simulator and the break reaction timer.”

Any student who uses the distracted driving simulator and break reaction timer will be entered into a drawing to win money to get a DJ for his or her school’s prom. For a full schedule you can visit the health department’s website at www.zmchd.org.
