Golfers Honor Memory of Friend

Golfers hit the green in memory of a long-time friend.

The 20th annual Duane Kessler Scramble Golf Tournament took place Sunday at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Hopewell. Assistant Chairman Jim Wright says the tournament is a way to honor his memory.

"Devoted his whole life to baseball you might say in Muskingum County he was very active in Babe Ruth Baseball one of those is very responsible for the success that the Muskingum Valley Old Timers have had. We do this in memory of Duane every year, it’s good because it makes you think about him," said Wright.

The hot weather didn’t help this year’s turnout, but those who attended were there to support Babe Ruth Baseball.

"It helps with our budget with the Muskingum Valley Old Timers baseball too, we have to raise a lot of money every year which we’re real proud that we can keep going and we need all the support we can get to do that for kids to play baseball," said Wright.

Awards were presented, and the top three places won a cash prize.
