Golfing for a Greater Cause

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A lottery golf scramble was held at Fullers Fairways that raised funds to benefit Catholic Social Services, Payee program.

Fullers Fairways Employee Mark Chase explained how the golf scramble works and how golfers have fun showing their generosity by virtue of showing off their skills.

“A four-man scramble and that’s pretty… pretty standard for what we have as far as our scrambles,” Chase said. “We do have a lot of outings and we’re happy to have great causes like this. Many of our outings are for excellent causes and we’re happy to support Catholic Social Services. They do great work in the community. They help kids and adults and families. They’re just a great organization.”

Catholic Social Services Eastern Regional Director David Desender shared how the organization assists financially challenged seniors and disabled individuals who are struggling to keep afloat.

“This golf scramble helps with the operations of our payee program,” Desender said. “We actually manage people’s money. People who, maybe because of a disability or maybe the aging process, just aren’t able to manage their funds appropriately, so we do it for them. Ensure that their money’s going for their best interest and not somebody else’s. And protect them from some of the predators that might be out there in the community taking advantage of them.”

2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the fundraiser that not only provides the Catholic Social Services, payee program with the proceeds but also allows a chance for the public to become acquainted with the program.
