Golfing for Scholarships

With the swing of a club, dozens of golfers helped to raise money for Zane State College Students Monday.

The Zanesville Country Club hosted the Zane State College Foundation’s 29th Annual Drive for Excellence golf outing. The outing raises money for the school’s scholarship fund. This year, Zane State will award over 120 scholarships to area students.

“The students at Zane State College are primarily from this region and they stay in this region, so they support the employers here and around Muskingum, Noble, Guernsey Counties and surrounding counties as well,” said the executive director of institutional advancement at Zane State, Pam Jira.

She said through the past 29 years, community donations have helped Zane State raise over $2 million for scholarships.

“It’s because of the generosity of the wonderful people in our community, our sponsors and our players who’ve come out to help people in our community get a college education and a chance for a great life,” Jira said.

Along with raising all of that money, Jira said over 2,300 students have received at least some scholarship money from the Zane State College Foundation.
