Guernsey County Library Staff File To Strike
If you’re thinking of going to the library in Cambridge this week you better do so by Thursday because on Friday there could be a work stoppage. The Guernsey County District Public Library Board of Trustees has been told by its union that it has filed an intent to strike and picket effective 12:01 a.m. Friday July 13th. Trustee Tom Cahoon says he was informed of the action last Wednesday. Cahoon says representatives of the Library and Local 26 of the Ohio Association of Public School Employee/Afscme will meet with a mediator on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Crossroads Library. The points of contention for the 15 employees are salary and benefits. Cahoon says the Library has been losing money for the last five or six years and something must be done. If there is a strike on Friday the Crossroads Library will remain open with administrative staff while the two other branches will close.
