ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local nonprofit is assembling the framework of a future home for another Muskingum County family.

Habitat for Humanity of Southeastern Ohio’s Community Engagement Director Melissa Best described what is taking place here in the community.

“A community that we’re really focused on: Luck Avenue, Cedar, Columbia,” Best said. “And this week we’re doing what we call a blitz-build. So we’re going from subfloor to under-roof in just a couple days. So the house we’re at today, at 235 Luck Avenue, is being built for a single mom. She has four kids, one with special needs and this momma is working hard. She is an amazing Habitat partner. And we’re happy to be building this house, in partnership with her.”

Muskingum County is facing a housing shortage and Habitat for Humanity along with the support of their community partnerships is targeting a key segment of the community.

“So Habitat’s mission is to eliminate poverty housing,” Best said. “And one way that we can do that is to build homes in partnership with low to moderate income families. There is a real housing crisis, not just in Muskingum County but really nationwide and we are doing our very best to help right here in Zanesville, Muskingum County to eliminate that, one house at a time. And we really couldn’t do it without the support of this community.”

Best noted that people who are interested in volunteering or people who are desperate for housing can learn more by visiting their website or can reach out through their Facebook page.
