Zanesville, Ohio- Locals gathered to raise money for a local charity this evening.

Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio hosted their second annual Muskingum County Muskingum County Nails It event at the Fieldhouse. Community Engagement Director, Murphie Rambo, explains the competition involves teams of four hammering in eight nails.

“It’s a nailing competition between local businesses or local groups themselves and they come in and each team is made up of four people and some people have a fifth for a captain and they hammer in eight nails into a two by four. Whoever does it the fastest wins the competition.”

The event also held a silent auction of two thousand dollars worth of items donated by local businesses. Rambo notes money raised from the event will go towards this years project of building two homes here in Zanesville.

“The money that is raised here today between the silent auction or the actual event itself goes towards our two home builds that we are doing in the fall this year. We’re going to be starting two houses in the fall, one partnering with the career canter here in Zanesville, the students of Mideast are going to build one for us during their school year and then the second one is going to be one that the community builds itself and that will start in September.”

This will be the first time since 2008 that the Habitat for Humanity has built homes in Muskingum County.
