Hayden R. Davis (July 17, 1926 – September 14, 2011)

HILLIS & HARDWICK FUNERAL HOME OBIT:

Hayden R. Davis, 85 of Zanesville, died 5:15 PM, Wednesday, September 14, at Willow Haven Care Center following a short illness. He was born Saturday, July 17, 1926 in Zanesville, the son of William Davis and Hilda (Brock) Bethel. He married Catherine M. (Nutt) Davis on Friday, December 2, 1949 and was a life long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Hayden was a veteran of The United States Navy serving both during World War II and Korea. Hayden retired from The United States Postal Service following 38 years of service and was a school bus driver for Zanesville City Schools for over 18 years. He was a member of Muskingum County Old Timers Association and a baseball coach for over 35 years in Sonora and Zanesville. He also served as the Senior Pioneers Manager for many of those years. He was an avid Cincinnati Bengals Fan and was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.

Hayden is survived by his wife of 61 years: Catherine Davis; one daughter: Karen (Nick) Berelsman of Zanesville; one son: Jeff Davis of Zanesville; three grandchildren: Kerry (Bob) Henne of Pittsburgh, Brad (Amy) Davis of Zanesville and Wendy (Mike) McMahan of Zanesville; three great grandchildren and one brother-in-law: Larry Schob of Zanesville.

In additional is his parents, Hayden was preceded in death by one sister: Phyllis Schob and brother: George Bethel.

Friends may call 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Friday, September 16, 2011 at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, where Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Mark Matzke officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park.
