Health Department Continues County Mosquito Spraying

As mosquitoes continue to rise this season, the constant rain is not helping the problem.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department is still conducting its mosquito spraying to try to combat this issue, but Public Information Officer, Jennifer Hiestand, said there are other ways to help control the spread.

“Really the best thing that people can do, eliminate the standing water they have in their yards, flower pots, gutters, discarded tires, pool covers, bird baths, even pet water dishes. Just remember everyday it rains it’s giving mosquitoes new environment to breed in,” Hiestand said.

Hiestand said no cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Muskingum County yet this year, but encourages all citizens to take precaution.

“Definitely call us for spraying in your neighborhood or if you are at a location in Muskingum County that’s a problem area, call 740-454- 9741 ext. 300, leave your address or location there, because we take those calls and log them,” she said.
