MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio – April is child abuse awareness month, and the Carr Center is partnering up with Heroes Landing to kick it off.

The two nonprofits are teaming up to give Heroes Landing a more permanent home at a house owned by the Carr Center.

The home is being set up as a place for children who are victims of sexual or physical abuse to go receive a more comforting forensic examination.

Evonne Saunders, the Executive Director of Heroes Landing, says the home will be something that Muskingum County has needed for a while,

“Before victims of sexual sexual abuse had to travel outside the county for services so the fact that we actually have a space here that easily accessible by residents really made a huge difference, in terms of being able to establish our organization sooner rather than later.”

The pair will also be wearing blue every Friday to show support for the awareness month.

The home will not be finished until May 1st, but the Executive Director of the Carr Center, Becky Clawson says that this house will be a great asset to the community.

“I think this is a very unique opportunity for our community, and we are always happy to partner with other nonprofits to make a larger impact. And I think that’s what we really hope to see here is to reduce the burden on families in Muskingum County,” she said.
