ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority met Wednesday and featured a presentation from the High Tech Corridor.
Executive director of the project, Dr. Paul Brown said this regional development project is a mega business park in Southeast Ohio, which would also include universities and colleges. The project will be an incubator to support business operations in the area. Dr. Brown said this project will take 20 to 25 years to complete. The next step is talking to AEP regarding the land and making this a nonprofit 5013c that would belong to the region.
“It’s a place where businesses, entrepreneurs, and educators can innovate and develop things in our emerging sectors,” said Dr. Brown. “What we are talking about is raising the tide of the businesses in the region. A project like this could easily employ conservatively 10,000 or more people. As well as have an economic impact comparable to other places that we looked at of over 2.5 billion dollars a year.”
Also at Wednesday’s meeting, port authority executive director Matt Abbott presented board member and president of the chamber of commerce Tom Poorman with a plaque for his years of service. Poorman announced last week that he was resigning to take on a new position as project manager for Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth.
“I’m really excited to be able to focus on economic development,” said Poorman. “That part of the job is extremely rewarding, when you can participate in economic growth, you can really change the quality of life in the community. Ultimately change the quality of lives in the community. I’m really happy to be able to focus on economic development, work with local communities throughout the region as see if we can’t make some economic development projects happen.”
Poorman’s last day is June 3rd.
