Highway Patrol Brings Attention To Move Over Law

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-October 19th is national Move Over Awareness day for the highway patrol.
Like all traffic safety laws the Move Over law is for the safety of all motorists, citizens and officers alike. Trooper Brice Nihiser tells us more about the law.
“The move over law in Ohio basically means that when you’re approaching an emergency vehicle with its lights activated, you have to move over and if you can’t move over you just need to slow down.”
Last year over one thousand officers were struck by motorists failing to move over. Failing to move over can result in a fine.
“”If you don’t move over or slow down, there’s a couple things: You can receive a citation, but more importantly you just wanna move over for that emergency worker, that officer, on the side of the road just to keep them safe.”
The highway patrol reminds citizens to also drive sober and undistracted.
