Highway Patrol Reports Thanksgiving Weekend Numbers

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-The highway patrol spent extra resources this past weekend to maintain safety for the holiday weekend.

The Zanesville Post saw very low numbers on stops and citations. Sergeant Kevin Kelley believes it was lower than last year’s Thanksgiving weekend.

“Here in the Zanesville post area, which is considered post 60, we had 262 traffic stops, the troopers here at the post issued an excess of 125 traffic citations, we had one OVI arrest and zero fatal crashes. During that same time we wrote 22 seat belt citations which is good.”

The Zanesville Post operates as part of a much larger district. Kelley also reported on district wide numbers.

“There were 1,394 traffic stops we had over the recording period, which was from November 25th through November 30th. Big highlight for that timeframe was zero traffic fatalities. Out of those 1,394 traffic stops, 464 were enforcement stops.”

The district also includes New Philadelphia, Cambridge and Steubenville
